Day 1: Creating Blue Moon Space HQ

I bought this wallpaper without a full plan — just a feeling. I wanted this room, my Blue Moon Space, to feel mystical and artistic, something that looks like it walked straight out of one of my own collages. So today, I'm starting where every real transformation actually starts: alone in a room, staring at a roll of paper, figuring it out as I go.

I've never hung wallpaper before. Not once. So I'm doing this "super-intuitively" — no tutorial open in another tab, no rulebook, just me, the wall, and a plan that exists mostly in my head. That felt worth admitting, because I think we imagine transformation as something that arrives fully formed, when really it starts exactly like this: a little unsure, a little messy, moving forward anyway.

The day didn't happen in one clean stretch, either. It happened in the in-between moments that actually make up a real day. A break for a Shakeology shake, because let's be honest — nobody has time to cook lunch when they're mid-project. A break to sit with a wave of "wait, am I even doing this right?" — the kind of questioning that shows up uninvited in the middle of anything worth building. A break for a work meeting, because this room isn't just where I create — it's also where I work. And more than one cup of coffee, because that's just how the hours get through.

Here's the one technique I did figure out, the hard way: you glue from the top and work your way down. If you don't, the paper curls back on itself and fights you the whole way. Once I understood that, the rest became a rhythm — glue, smooth, press, move down, repeat, panel after panel, until the wall in front of me stopped being bare and started being mine.

It wasn't as easy as it looks online. I want to be honest about that. But by the end of the day, the wall was covered, and standing back to look at it, I could finally see what I'd been chasing all along — that blue, artistic atmosphere I've been imagining for Blue Moon Space, starting to become real.

I'm happy with where it landed today. Not finished — just started. Because that's what today actually was: not a reveal, just the first physical act of building this space into what it's meant to be.

Stay close, because Day 2 is coming — more of this room, more of how Blue Moon Space keeps taking shape, one unglamorous, coffee-fueled step at a time. If you want to watch it unfold in real time before it ever makes it here, that's happening on Instagram first.

Love,

Penelope.
